In 2025, the California Green New Deal Coalition conducted a series of interviews with longtime organizers and movement leaders to better understand the state of organizing as a field and as a practice. What we heard, loud and clear, aligns with an emerging body of research and assessments from the field: organizing stands at a crossroads. In order to respond to the many crises we are facing, we need to prioritize sustained shifts to train and resource the field. 

This report serves as our attempt to synthesize the main themes that we heard during those interviews. We share these takeaways with the intention of supporting our collective practice and bring us back to what we know best: organizing.
